The Morton Arboretum

The Morton Arboretum is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the planting and conservation of trees and plant life. It is a internationally renowned center for plant conservation, eduation and research.
It lies on the Valparaiso moraine and is bisected by the DuPage River. It's grounds span more thn 1,700 acres, filled with 4,000 tree and plant collections ranging 41,000 different specimens.
Throughout the park there are 16 miles of hiking trails, nine miles of paved road for bikes and tours and 900 acres of natural habitat, including the restored 100-acre Schulenberg Prairie.
On the East side of the park there are six walking trails and 5 on th west. Biking and running are allowed only on th paved trails and climbing the trees is strictly prohibited.
The Arboretum opened in 1992 by Morton Salt magnate, Joy Morton. In addition to all the trails the arboretum includes the Visitor Center, Plant Clinic, Arboretum Store, Gingko Restaraunt and Cafe, Children's Garden, Maze Garden and walking trails around Meadow Lake. It also has 33 enviornmentally friendly parking lots.
The arboretum is openly 365 days of the year.
Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and those under the age of 2 can enter for free.

Things To Do in The Morton Arboretum
Renowned artist Steve Tobin opened his Steelroots exhibit at the Morton Arboretum last year. It is featured in 22-acre Conifer Collection along a half a mile trail.
His pieces include:
- Two large bronze sculptures entitled "Romeo and Juliet"
- Five smaller sculptures that are "kid" sized
- Two steel pine cones
