Sears Tower
Back
As the tallest building in the United States and third tallest building in the world, the Sears Tower is a true architectural phenomenon. Standing over 1,450 feet high, 1,725 feet including the antennas, the Sears Tower held the record for the world’s tallest building upon its completion in early 1973.
Visiting the Sears Tower is a hands-on activity for the whole family. Not only will guests get to see breathtaking views of the Chicago cityscape, the Sears Tower has museum-quality exhibits to make for the ideal viewing experience. The first step includes the Sears Tower Skydeck, Chicago’s most visited and highest observatory. Take the Skydeck elevator up 110 stories or 1,353 feet to the observation deck. From the top, it is possible to spot various popular Chicago attractions including the Wrigley Building, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Navy Pier. Better yet, on a clear day it is possible to see parts of Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan. High-tech, high-powered telescopes allow for a more detailed view. Various interactive exhibits explain Chicago’s past and present, highlighting the city’s historic figures.
Interactive kiosks featuring hands-on computer terminals provide more extensive information in English, French, Japanese, German, Spanish and Polish. Children can also enjoy the Skydeck with its “knee high” display. The kid’s view extends around the entire floor and fun cut-out windows allow for an amusing experience. The Sears Tower is a must-see site for both tourists and Illinois natives. For more information from the Sears Tower Skydeck, visit http://www.the-skydeck.com/visitor_info/index.html.
