Museum of Science & Industry
Back
The Museum of Science and Industry is housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair. Home to more than 35,000 artifacts and nearly 14 acres of hands-on exhibits designed to spark scientific inquiry and creativity, the Museum is not your typical science center. There are unique exhibits that appeal to people of all ages. Daily programming includes costumed program interpretation, daily science experiences, and more.
- Largest Science Museum in the Western Hemisphere! You’ve never seen anything like it; it’s a Chicago must-see! Wander through 14 acres of hands-on exhibits, including a 13-foot Giant Heart, a United 727 airplane hanging from the ceiling, 30 model trains making the trip from Chicago to Seattle, and a five-story domed Omnimax theater!
- Unique! Where else can you see a World War II German U-boat submarine; more than 50 real, preserved human specimens; your face aged 40 years; baby chicks hatching every day; the real Apollo 8 capsule; robots at work; and tour an Illinois coal mine?
- Easy! Just seven miles from downtown with convenient underground parking—or just hop on the #10, #6, or #2 CTA bus and get dropped off just steps away. Take the Metra train to the 55th/56th/57th street station. MSI is located in the beautiful Hyde Park neighborhood—near the Obama family home!
- Fun and Interactive! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn by doing. See your blood running through your veins, dive and surface a submarine, or create an avalanche!
