The Chicago neighborhoods of Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village are part of the northwest area of the city known as West Town. More so than other north side Chicago neighborhood, Wicker Park has been a haven for the arts and counter-culture, especially in recent years. It is home to many of Chicago's finest artisan-led galleries and stores and one of the largest communities of working artists in Chicago.

The intersection of North, Damen, and Milwaukee Avenues is home to many of the attractions that are Wicker Park's claim to fame among the Chicago neighborhoods. Chic bars, vintage clothing, furniture, and record stores are popular destinations as are the live bands that can be seen at venues like the Double Door (which was featured in Chicago-native John Cusack's movie, "High Fidelity"). There is an emphasis on performance art and theater as well, bringing an offbeat crowd to the streets of this Chicago neighborhood.

Wicker Park's proximity to the loop has attracted many a developer and its housing prices have increased accordingly. Residents are attempting to preserve the attractions that make it a diverse and eclectic mix of small businesses, galleries, and hip restaurants. The result is a shabby chic and fully dynamic destination for visitors and residents alike. The median price for a Wicker Park home is $269,900, but a deal can often by found in some of the older areas. A one or two bedroom apartment can rent between $700 and $1400.

Bounded by Ashland, Division, Damen & Chicago, East Ukrainian Village is a neighborhood in which century-old housing is constantly being redeveloped and rennovated, so much so that many have taken to referring to it as simply "East Village". The community is comprised of a lovely blend of tree-lined streets, apartments, rejuvenated houses and flats. Parking is permit-free, the Blue Line and Metra are only a few blocks away, shopping and dining establishments are in constant development, and this is all just 10 minutes from the Loop.

The El is located at North Damen and Milwaukee and the Kennedy Expressway borders the area.
