The Chicago neighborhood of Uptown just a few years ago had a less-than-sterling reputation. Much of the area was run down, delapidated and just generally unpleasant-looking. Not so now! Like many of the other Chicago neighborhoods that border Lakeview, Uptown has experienced a huge upswing in construction, beautification and development in the last few years. Residents who bought homes there just 3 or 4 years ago are seeing their property values soar. With many national chains either opening new stores in the area or developing plans to do so, Uptown is poised to recapture some of its original status in the city; it was originally developed as an affluent summer resort by the lake in the late 19th century.

Uptown is anchored by its theater and culture. The exterior and interior architecture of the Aragon Ballroom, Riviera Theatre, and Uptown Theatre show the grand history of bygone eras. Take a trip to the famed Green Mill Jazz Club (4802 N. Broadway), favorite haunt of Al Capone, which attracts jazz fans and clubgoers alike.

Uptown plays host to Little Saigon, an area along Argyle street with predominantly Asian businesses and restaurants, like a miniature Chinatown.

Uptown also encompasses the historic, 120-acre Graceland Cemetary, where many of the past's "who's who" in Chicago rest. Uptown is bordered by Ashland on the west, Foster Avenue on the north, Lake Michigan to the east, and Irving Park Road to the South.

Sheridan Park is a sub-neighborhood of Uptown bounded by Irving Park, Montrose, Broadway and Clark. It is a National Register Historic District and is comprised of a history-rich blend of architectural styles. Recent years have seen an explosion of high-end rennovations in Sheridan Park's beautiful houses.

The CTA Red and Purple lines run though the middle of the neighborhood with stops at Argyle, Lawrence, Wilson, and Sheridan. Busses run on most major streets.
