Although it started out as a primarily Swedish community, the Chicago neighborhood of Hermosa has had many waves of new residents from different ethnic backgrounds over its history. It now boasts a primarily hispanic population.

Hermosa is enjoying an upsurge in development and community awareness after having some difficulties in the 90's. In the last decade the neighborhood has become increasingly family-oriented, and constant community beautifucation projects and volunteer work have facilitated the opening of many new businesses in the area, and continue to do so.

The Chicago neighborhood of Kilbourn Park, named for the city park in the area, is home to the Kilbourn Park Organic Greenhouse (3501 North Kilbourn Avenue), a facility which may be utilized to keep plants in bloom throughout the winter in preparation for spring planting. Plan a night of live Blues at Rosa's (3420 W. Armitage). Local radio stations are known to broadcast from it and the drinks are cheap.

Kelvyn Park is yet another Chicago neighborhood named for an actual park. Kelvyn Park, the park, is located at 4438 W. Wrightwood and features open park area, baseball, tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground and even a volleyball court, although you must bring your own net and ball.

Hermosa and adjoining Kilbourn Park & Kelvyn Park are considered solid, working-class neighborhoods with local emphasis on family and community. Each neighborhood boasts a namesake park for family fun and recreation, and is accessible by CTA bus.
