The Chicago neighborhood of Edgewater has a population of 62,000 people and contains the neighborhoods of Edgewater Glen, Andersonville, and Lakewood-Balmoral. The residential areas are dotted with high rises, single-family condos and apartment buildings. The area faces Lake Michigan with easy access to Hollywood Beach and 16 other parks and beaches. Although Edgewater has had its bouts with poverty, the Edgewater Community Council (ECC) has done much to turn the area around and its residents and buildings are thriving.

Located in the southwest corner of Edgewater, Andersonville is a neighborhood influenced by Swedish culture and home to the Swedish American Heritage Museum (5211 N. Clark Street), the Swedish Bakery (5348 N. Clark Street) and local Ann Sather (5207 N. Clark Street). It is also home to many female business owners and young entrepreneurs. Women and Children First (5233 N. Clark Street) is an in independant bookstore that caters to women's and children's literature.

The stretch of Clark Street between Lawrence Ave. & Bryn Mawr has seen a boom in new shops, restaurants and businesses in recent years. The spine of Andersonville, this area is rife with eclectic shops, cafes, fitness centers, cybercafes, boutiques, and restaurants. The range of different cultural cuisines offered in this area alone is staggering.

East of Andersonville is Lakewood-Balmoral, known for its vintage homes and quiet residential areas.

In the heart of Edgewater, along Argyle Street, is Chicago's new Chinatown or "Little Saigon" with many popular and authentic restaurants and shops owned by foreign-born Cambodians, Vietnamese, and Southeast Asians.

The progressive population in Edgewater and its sub-neighborhoods is diverse and stable. It offers opportunities for everyone and an interesting place to go on every visit.

 The El Red Line [Howard-Dan Ryan] runs through the middle of this area, with stops at Loyola, Granville, Thorndale, Bryn Mawr and Berwyn. The Metra commuter train stops at Lawrence and Ravenswood, which is only a few blocks to the west of the neighborhood. Edgewater is also extremely accessible via Lakeshore Drive.
