As its name suggests, the far south neighborhood of Ashburn got its start as a popular place for Chicagoans to dump their fireplace and furnace ashes. While neighborhood growth was slow to get going in the early part of the century, it boomed in the 1940’s and 1950’s. In fact, the area is so stable, that many of the original residents still live there today, having moved in during the ‘50’s. Today, home prices range from $75,000 to $250,000. Ashburn is known for its several Cape Cod homes. These homes were built with an unfinished second story which current buyers can use to expand the home without paying for an addition.

Ashburn is bordered by 75^th Street, Kedzie Avenue, 87^th Street and Pulaski Road. North of Ashburn is the neighborhood of Ashburn Estates. It is bordered by 85^th Street, 87^th Street, Pulaski and Cicero. On the east side of Ashburn lays the Wrightwood neighborhood. It is bordered by 75^th Street, Western, 87^th Street and Kedzie.

The CTA Orange Line runs in the area.
