You'll get the inside scoop to the coolest events in the city.

Chi-ca-go-an. It's an adjective. But what does it mean? Well, locals know. We Chicagoans mix our Midwest ideals with a city vibe. It means we are nice enough to give you directions, but savvy enough to hop on the 'L' and not look back. We love the lake, art galleries, neighborhood dives and bars, great music, Second City, and the million different cultures that make up the city. Chicago is an architectural dream. Chicago is a foodie's paradise. Chicago is the place to call home.

Eating Out?

Plush Chicago
Style: Bar Food
Hours: Monday - Friday, 5pm - 2am
Saturday, 6pm - 3am
Closed on Sundays
Phone: (312) 491-9800
Address: 1104 W. Madison Ave.
Chicago, IL 60607

The phrase "upscale lounge" tends to bring out the worst elements in urban nightlife, from overpriced drinks to obnoxious barflies (ahem, Y Bar) . But Plush, a new West Loop restaurant-bar, offers style while checking snobbery at the door.

Inside: You'll find a mix of old-school luxury and a modern vibe with a dominating red color scheme. Vintage chandeliers hang over the tables by the west wall while sleek stainless steel halogen fixtures illuminate the bar directly across the room.

Don't expect to see plasma screens tuned to anime. Instead, a massive projection screen features a slideshow of museum masters, a fitting complement to the Renaissance-era sculptures peppered throughout the two-room space. Temporary tables and chairs will keep buns comfortable for now, but permanent and super-plushy furniture is expected to arrive within two weeks. Get there early and snag a posh corner booth flanked by velvet curtains. However, management would be wise to get a weather canopy on the entrance to block the harsh winter winds.

Crowd: Relaxed, sophisticated bargoers with no packs of preying frat boys or giggling Trixies.

Dress: Smart city style is definitely the way to go. Expect more daring and patterned shirts on gents (we don't mean just vertical stripes, fellas), while women bring out fun accessories like funky gold earrings and feather boas. Drinks: A martini menu is in the works, but mixed drinks go for $5-$9. There are no taps, but the bar has bottled basics from Budweiser to Stella at $5-$6. .

Food: Sample dishes such as the signature apple ravioli ($14), filet mignon ($20) or gourmet pizzas ($9)..

Sounds: Electro faves like Massive Attack play in the background. Enjoy the music and chat without having to utter a single Lil John "WHAT?" all night. Weekend DJs will start spinning soon. .

Smokes: The lounge has several hookahs, but currently, only apple-flavored tobacco is on the menu ($20). Expect more varieties when Tuesday night belly dancing begins next month. .

Service: Very friendly. Lovely bartenders and servers will chat you up, but without any of the customary false flirting.

Bottom line: No cover and no pretension make this spot an early winner.
