Alinea

After Alinea opened in 2005 Gourmet magazine named it the best in America.
Chicago chef Grant Achatz makes food that is part playful, part science fiction and entirely surprising.
Walking into Alinea shouldn't make guests feel like they're entering a restaurant to be served a meal, Grant Achatz explains. It should make them feel like they're being welcomed into someone's home for dinner. To encourage that association, no sign graces the dark gray facade, no bill of fare is posted. Armed only with trust in the address, guests step through the outside door into a passageway that is nothing less than a conduit into Achatz'a world.
